Claessens Erdmann architects is building a new European headquarters in Hengelo for Sensata Technologies Holland B.V. in collaboration with Schröder Vastgoed and the local authority, with the aim of acquiring BREEAM Outstanding status. The new office is designed to be the healthiest and most advanced work environment in the Netherlands, and aims for a position in the top 3 on the BREEAM ladder of excellence. It will be 5 storeys high and provide approximately 9,000 m2 of office and laboratory space.
A global 'first' in terms of CO2 reduction will be the use of cementless concrete in the floor elements. The project is based on the circular consumption philosophy. The outer structure employs the 'design for disassembly' approach, which means that when it is eventually dismantled, the individual components and elements can be re-used. The design of the interior is also characterised by a high level of ambition in terms of sustainability, as reflected in the creation of an ultra-healthy interior climate, open workspace and use of innovative materials.
